  • Palliative Care Week 2010 Wraps Up - 3-Jun-2010

What was that whooshing noise? That must be the sound of another Palliative Care Week zooming by! And what a week it was! While services around the state were holding information sessions and putting up displays and stalls and hosting barbeques – the Governor-General hosted an afternoon tea at Admiralty House in Sydney and the PCNSW Professional Development Education Day was held at RPA followed by the Gala Awards Dinner!

Everyone of course deserves to win and the judging panel had an extremely difficult time deciding the winners. We had two panels this year – each of which consisted of a management committee member, an interstate palliative care expert and a non-practising palliative care specialist from NSW.

Congratulations to every person or organisation that was nominated. The Award recipients this year are:

Outstanding Contribution to Specialist Palliative Care – The Quiet Achiever Award

    Joan Ryan

    Innovation in Palliative Care

Cessnock Kurri Kurri Singleton Palliative Care

Excellence in provision of Palliative Care within a Residential Aged Care Facility

    Lorraine Knight

    Volunteers Supporting Palliative Care

    Daphne Robertson

    Significance in Palliative Care Research.

    Associate Professor Liz Lobb

Excellence in provision of Primary (non-Specialist) Palliative Care within a Non-Specialist Care setting

    Central Coast Division of GP

    Leadership in Palliative Care

    Dr Joanne Doran

Thank you to all who supported both the Education Day and the Dinner. Photos from the dinner will be available next week. Certificates of attendance will be sent to all who registered for the Education Day and Nomination Certificates will go to every Award Nominee.

Time to rev up now for the Conference in November!
